The Five Wraps, Compared

One build, five proteins, and the lightest section on the menu — plus the lamb gyro hiding on the specials list.

Gyro wrap filled with meat, salad and cucumber sauce
Quick answer

Five wraps — gyro, chicken, beef, shrimp and veggie — all built with raw onions, lettuce, tomato and a cool cucumber sauce. Only the protein changes. They are the lightest things on the menu, with no cheese and nothing battered.

Five wraps, all built the same way: raw onions, lettuce, tomato and a cool cucumber sauce. Only the filling changes. They are the lightest things on this menu by a wide margin, and they are the section most people scroll straight past.

All five, side by side

Beef WrapBeefRicher, stands up to the sauceYou want the meat to lead

Because the build is identical across all five, the choice really is just the protein — which makes this the easiest section on the menu to order from and the easiest to order badly, since the wrong protein against a cool sauce is the only way to get it wrong.

What the cucumber sauce is doing

It is the thing that makes these wraps work, and it is worth understanding before you pick. A yoghurt-and-cucumber sauce brings cold and acidity against warm filling. That is a contrast, not a seasoning — which is why a rich filling reads as balanced and a delicate one can get buried.

So: beef and gyro meat have the weight to hold their own against it. Chicken sits comfortably in the middle. Shrimp is the one where the sauce does the most of the talking, which some people love and some find one-sided.

  • Want the sauce to lead — shrimp or veggie
  • Want the meat to lead — beef or gyro
  • Want neither to dominate — chicken
  • Taking it away — ask for the sauce on the side, whichever you pick

Why they are the lightest thing here

Almost everything else on this menu is either fried or built around melted cheese. A wrap has neither. There is no cheese in the standard build, nothing is battered, and roughly half of what is inside is raw salad.

The bread matters too. A flatbread wrap carries far less weight than a filled roll does — flatbreads are among the oldest prepared foods precisely because they are thin, quick and portable, and that thinness is why a wrap eats lighter than a 7-inch sandwich with the same filling in it.

If light is what you are after, this section and the salads are where to start. Our guide to what to order when you do not want fried food covers the rest.

A wrap already carries its salad, which is why it needs less alongside it.

The lamb gyro on the specials

Worth knowing because it is easy to miss: A3 on the weekday all-day special list is a lamb gyro, and A4 is a chicken wrap. Both come with fries or onion rings and a drink.

That makes the specials list the cheapest way into this section, and the lamb gyro is the only place lamb appears anywhere on the menu. The guide to the three special menus sets out what else is on there.

Philly tip

Ordering a wrap to take away? Ask for the sauce on the side and add it when you get there. Cucumber sauce against warm filling in a closed wrap softens the flatbread within about ten minutes, and there is no rescuing it afterwards.

The veggie wrap is a real build

Worth separating out, because on most menus “veggie” means the same thing with the meat left out. Here the wrap is already three-quarters salad and a sauce — raw onions, lettuce, tomato and cucumber sauce — so removing the protein takes away a quarter of it rather than the point of it.

That makes it the strongest meat-free option on the menu after the Veggie Philly, and unlike the Veggie Philly it has nothing melted in it at all. For anyone eating with a table ordering wings, it is the order that does not feel like a consolation prize.

Which protein against which sauce

One more decision people do not realise they are making. The cucumber sauce is constant, but the sauce cups on the sides menu are not, and a wrap takes an added sauce differently from a sandwich because there is no cheese to absorb it.

  • Gyro or beef — nothing added; the sauce and the meat are already balanced
  • Chicken — a cup of garlic sauce works, and adds depth without heat
  • Shrimp — cocktail sauce, if you want it sharper still
  • Veggie — ranch, which gives it the richness the meat would have

What to order alongside

Less than you would with a sandwich, and drier. A wrap is lighter, so the temptation is to over-order the side and end up with a fried meal attached to a light main.

  • Fries — the obvious choice, and enough
  • Onion rings — better, for the crunch against a soft wrap
  • A plain salad — only if the wrap is the veggie one and you want volume
  • Loaded fries — this undoes the point of ordering a wrap

Wrap or sandwich?

The honest comparison. A 7-inch sandwich and a wrap are roughly the same amount of food, but they eat completely differently: the sandwich is hot the whole way through and the wrap is half cold. If you want to feel full for the afternoon, order the sandwich. If you want to still be able to work, order the wrap.

The short version

Five wraps, one build, five proteins. Gyro first if you have never had one, chicken if you want the safest, beef if you want the meat to lead, shrimp for the lightest and veggie for no meat. Sauce on the side if it is going in a bag. They are on the gyro and wraps menu.

Frequently asked questions

What wraps are on the menu?

Five — gyro, chicken, beef, shrimp and veggie. All are built with raw onions, lettuce, tomato and cucumber sauce.

Which wrap is the lightest?

The shrimp wrap. The veggie wrap is close behind, and all five are lighter than anything else on the menu.

Do the wraps come with cheese?

No. The standard build is raw onions, lettuce, tomato and cucumber sauce.

Is there a lamb option?

Yes — A3 on the weekday all-day special is a lamb gyro, and it is the only place lamb appears on the menu.

Wrap or sandwich?

Roughly the same amount of food, but a wrap is half cold salad and a sandwich is hot the whole way through. The wrap is the lighter meal.
